*Friday 15th February - Issue Two*

It's the third week of the broadcast, and isn't it going well!

A problem with computing services at the University meant that Fresh Air
did temporarily go off air last Tuesday evening. However all was up,
running and well by the next morning so hopefully there should be no
further problems. If it does happen again you can still get your dose of
Fresh Air by listening to one of Fresh Air's podcasts. New this week is
the 'Sweet as the Pineapple' podcast, magically downloadable here
<http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=273510097>.

Also new to Fresh Air, and to student radio station's everywhere is the
Student Radio Chart Show. Compiled by a number of stations across the UK
and established by the Student Radio Association
<http://www.studentradio.org.uk> this weekly chart show will go out live
across all participating stations and be hosted by a different student
station each week. Tune in <http://www.freshair.org.uk> this Sunday at
3pm to hear the first ever national student radio chart, this week
hosted by URN1350 in Nottingham.

If you have any comments about the /FAN/ or would like to recommend a
show to featured in next weeks picks e-mail publicity at freshair.org.uk
<mailto:publicity at freshair.org.uk>. If not, happy listening!

Show Picks

Last week the FAN used the good old social dividers of 'male and female'
to highlight two shows you might want to listen our for. This week we're
going for generational conflcit, sort of. This week's featured shows are
an oldie, and a noobie.

The Veteran: Fresh Folk with Paul Murray
Show Time: Sundays 2-3pm.
Bands: Show of Hands, Kate Rusby, Hayseed Dixie, Bert Jansch,
Shooglenifty, Richard Thomson, The Levellers, Gogol Bordello, The
Unusual Suspects
Fresh Folk has been on Fresh Air since the start of the 2006 broadcast,
and is connected to Edinburgh Folk Society which goes right back to the
50s. Fresh Folk has previously won Best Specialist Show at the Fresh Air
Awards. Presenter Paul Murray has won the glance of many a wandering
eyed maiden when peforming as part of Fresh Air's naked carol singing
troupe.
Website: Sure does <http://www.eufolksoc.org.uk/freshfolk>.

The Virgin: Rock and Roll High School with Simon Vansintjan
Show Time: Thursdays 10-11pm.
Bands: The Romantics, Devo, The Clash, AC/DC, The Bad Brains, Flogging
Molly, Death from Above 1979,Dead Kennedys, The Buzzcocks, Talking
Heads, New York Dolls, The Pogues, Jane's Addiction, MC5, Anti-Nowhere
League.
Rock and Roll High School is new to Fresh Air this year as is presenter
Simon. The idea is to take you through a general history of Rock and
Roll but also with some focuses for instance the origins of punk.
Next week Simon will do a special on Rock protest songs, mainly from
around the Vietnam years. You'll have to tune in to find out exactly
when those were.

Features

This week contained Valentine's Day. The shops wouldn't let you forget
it, magazines wouldn't let you forget it, Greggs's new Sausage 'Love'
Rolls, wouldn't let you forget it, and neither will the FAN.

This Friday's Front Row Dancing
<http://www.ed.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6803137454> aka 'Back Row
Romancing' is doing a Valentine's Day special. They'll be joined by
Panama Kings <http://www.myspace.com/panamakings> and SixStarHotel
<http://www.myspace.com/sixstarhotel> who are currenly on a joint UK
tour, and have held hands all the way. Tune in 3.30-4.30 this Friday on
Fresh Air <http://www.freshair.org.uk>.

The three hour, lady-filled-lady-sandwich that makes up Fresh Air's
Monday evening programming see usual trio of Sex, Drugs and Cotton
Candy, The Wire and then The Pulse taking to the air between 7 and 10pm.
This week Tallah Brash (The Pulse
<http://www.ed.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6252371914>) will be putting
her cherry on the cake with a special feature on female musicians in
Scotland, and a special live phone link up with fellow female Camille
who'll be telling us all about SL Records
<http://www.slrecords.net/bands.htm>. Feel the Pulse between 10-11pm
every Monday.

Next Tuesday keep an ear out for Sam and Ben's Mischevious Gramophone
<http://ed.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5594188491>, and the second
installment of 'Dirk Frangipan and The Marzipan Affair.' Inspired by 60s
TV and 50s Radio Drama's 'Dirk Frangipan and The Mazipan Affair' is a
new series of 5 minute comic, adventure stories written by the two
presenters, and listened to by the audience. So far a suspicious item
has been thrown at Prince Andrew at the royal grand gala opening of an
outdoor swimming pool, the intrepid adventurers are in hot pursuit...
tune in on Tuesday 1.30-2.30pm to hear more.
