The new semester broadcast kicked off last Friday at noon by the lovely
legs belonging to the Amy and Briony show. Since then there's been
fifteen hours of live shows a day, nine hours of ever updated Fresh Air
play listed programming, making twenty four hours of Fresh Air per lunar
cycle. You could not ask for more. To see the fantastic new schedule
visit the 'on-air' <www.freshair.org.uk> section on the website.
The launch party the night before the broadcast at The Caves was the
dog's bananas with a great turn out and a climatic folk pit inspiring
set by Broken Records! It's three weeks until to the next Fresh Air Live
event with Found taking to Cabaret Voltaire on the 28th. Until then
however we have a few events of interest coming up and some extra
special things to look out for too.
Next Wednesday 13th Fresh Air are hosting a day of careers talk. From
10am-4pm the Cabaret Bar at The Pleasance will be taken over by various
speakers from both the Scottish and national radio industry with talks
from BBC Scotland's presenter Vic Galloway and his production team, the
programme controller of Xfm Scotland, and the team from the Comedy Unit.
It's a perfect opportunity to learn more about the radio industry and to
meet people from other student stations. It's also all free.
Did you know we were on Radio One last Wednesday? Because, you
definitely do now. Every fortnight Fresh Air is given it's own slot
within the Wednesday night BBC Introducing show to make features on
anything to do with the local music scene. This week Fresh Air's feature
was on the Fife Kills collective, incidentally the label that this
week's free track is signed to. Listen again at
www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/vicgalloway <http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/vicgalloway>.

Every week the /FAN/ will be giving away a free download. And we hold
that truth to be self-evident.
This week's free track is "Know by now", by Edinburgh based Eagleowl.
Eagleowl are a lo-fi post folk trio who got together back in 2005 with
the idea of making some music. Not only did they do exactly that, but
they did it rather well earning themselves a signing to the Fife Kills
label. They're currently supporting The Twilight Sad, again by playing
music and can next be seen on the 20th March at The Liquid Rooms.
Last year Eagleowl graced the This Is Music show on Fresh Air, talking,
playing, and allowing us to record a live version of "Know by now". That
very track is available to download here
<www.freshair.org.uk/newsletter/eagleowl_-_know_by_now_%28live%29.mp3>.

Every week /FAN/ will dish out production tips, on-air tips, and any
pieces of advice we think those interested in making radio may be
interested in. This week we're starting simple.
Fix Up, Sound Sharp.
Smarten up your show with a jingle. If you don't have any sound editing
software the easiest place to start is with Audacity
<www.audacity.sourceforge.net>, downloadable from their website. It's
free and the most basic editing software available. With it you can cut
and loop songs to make your own bed music, alter voices to make
interesting jingles or simply cut down your show to turn into a podcast
or a present for mum. It's as easy as peasy pie to use to. However if
you don't know where to start, sign up on the Fresh Air forum for the
weekly editing work-shops on Thursdays at 7.30 in Studio 2.
Have a feature for you show? Want to make a feature for your show? With
gimmicky sound effects to boot? /FAN/ recommends these great websites to
download free sound samples, royalty free, totally legal, we promise etc
etc.
